Needle & Thread for Kylie's International Highlights Winners Blog Hop

Welcome to my blog today and I am excited to be taking part in Kylie's International Highlights Winners Blog Hop which this time has a theme of encouragement.  Here is what I have created.

Thank you to each of you that voted for my Butterfly Beauty card earlier in the month.  I really appreciate you taking the time to vote for my project.

Every vote counts and I'm delighted to have been placed in the top ten, which has enabled me to take part in this special top ten winners blog hop for December!

I have to admit that my creative mojo was sadly absent in the run up to Christmas, and I found it difficult to craft.  I am pleased that after a very relaxing and enjoyable Christmas, that I am feeling inspired again.  I think it is partly owing to the pile of gorgeous new products from the new Spring/Summer catalogue that I have to play with!  So many ideas buzzing round my head.  The new catalogue begins on 3rd January, so I hope this whets your appitite for what will be in store!

Today's project combines some of my favourite things: paper crafting (obviously!), sewing and butterflies.  I have used the Needlepoint Nook suite of products and they are just beautiful.  There is wonderful attention to detail on the faux sewing elements together with some truely fabulous sentiments.  Whose day could you make by presenting them with a card with the statement 'people like you make the world a better place' on?

Stampin' Up! products all coordinate superbly, so I decided to create a coordinated gift offering today including a notecard and a gift card holder.  The sentiment and the gorgeous butterfly paper are the stars of the notecard and there is very little extra decoration.  The stitched butterfly is stamped and punched out using the new butterfly punch and decorated with a wash of Wink of Stella sparkle and a self-adhesive sequin.  They are so pretty, and so easy to use.  Finally, there are a few twists of silver metallic thread under the sentiment.

Thank You to Kelly Acheson for the gift card holder instructions - Kelly's used Christmas paper, but they are so useful all year round, and they are really easy to make with the Envelope Punch Board.

You start with a piece of paper that measures 8" x 8" and then punch and score at 3 1/4", turn and then, just like making an envelope, use the score line to determine where you next punch and score.

Fold the paper in half.  This divides the large rectangular envelope space in the centre into two smaller rectangles.

Remove sections of the paper, top and bottom, as shown.

When the sheet is opened out again, the paper looks like this and when the triangles are folded in on the score lines two envelope pockets are created - one for a gift card, and the other for a little note maybe.

The advantage of using Designer Series Paper to make the gift card is that the inside of the holder is decorated prettily too.  Furthermore, there is plenty of left over paper to make the notecard!

The gift card holder closes like a book and is simply tied with a piece of ribbon to keep the contents secure.

I am so pleased with this pretty pair, and I'm sure that the other patterns in the paper pack will make beautiful gift sets too.

Butterfly Gala for Kylie's Demonstrator Training Blog Hop, December 2018

Welcome to my blog today.  I am taking part in Kylie's Demponstrator Training Blog Hop with other Demonstrators from all over the world.  There is no given theme for this hop, but there is sure to be plenty of creativity and inspiration along the way.

Products from the new Spring/Summer catalogue will become available in January 2019, and I'm giving you a little sneak peek to some of them today.  Aren't these butterflies adorable?  And so is the gingham paper!

The Gingham Gala suite has lots of gorgeous goodies including a stamp set with a matching butterfly punch (hooray!).  There are four different butterfly stamps, each with two butterfly images on one stamp; one large, one small.  The punch cuts out two separate butterflies (double hooray!).  The suite also includes a 6" x 6" pack of paper with classic gingham checks in light, fresh colours.  The paper I have used has a small check design, and the reverse side has a larger check design.

The stamp set includes some solid-shaped butterflies that can be used to colour in the outlines - I stamped off onto some scrap paper first so that a lighter shade was achieved.

I stamped, coloured and punched a pile of butterflies and then had fun arranging them
on my card(s).  As ever, indecision came to visit and I ended up with a couple of cards that are pretty similar, but different.  I couldn't choose between them, so I'm sharing them both!

The butterflies are mounted onto a punched shape stack, one plain one embossed with the new Dot to Dot Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  The punch comes in the Christmas Traditions Punch Box, which at the time of writing is on the list of Discontinued Products in the Year-End Closeout (at a reduced price, while stocks last).

I have stayed faithful to the colours used in the gingham paper paper pack because I love the fresh, spring like feel of them. The only extra embellishments I've used are basic pearls on the butterflies' bodies and a daubing from the Wink of Stella pen on their wings.

These cards were a joy to put together.  I wonder which version you prefer?  Thank you so much for visiting my blog today and for being part of our blog hop!  I really hope that you find lots of ideas that inspire you to create something special.  You are currently at my blog - Karen Henderson.  So check the list below to see who is next on the list.  Make sure you don't miss any!
